A 22 year-old male detainee reports while being interrogated that he was punched in the chest, choked and punched in the back. Happened six days prior to visit at the Al-Mahmudiyah Airport. No bruising evident.

- A 22 year old Iraqi male detainee states he was punched, choked and roughed-up during an interrogation at the al-Mahmudiyah airport. CID Report of investigation concerning alleged abuse of detainee during interrogation. Detainee was captured on June 19, 2004 and transported “to what he described as one of the Presidential Palaces.” He was interrogated the next day. The detainee was transported to Abu Ghraib on June 25, 2004. In a written statement on June 26, 2004, the detainee alleged that he was assaulted and threatened with choking during an interrogation by U.S. soldiers and one translator. He also alleged that he was slammed against a wall and struck in the stomach when led back to an isolation cell after the interrogation. The victim’s uncle, who was captured and detained at the same time, was also interviewed regarding this alleged abuse. He stated that “his nephew was soft and probably was not harmed as much as he claimed.” Investigation concludes that the detainee “was not assaulted as he originally reported.” Office of the Staff Judge Advocate “opined probable cause existed” to believe that detainee had “committed the offense of False Official Statement when he provided a written statement that did not reflect the incident as it actually happened.”
