Nov. 2, 2004 | CIA | ACLU-RDI 5826
This is a letter from CIA Assistant Inspector General for Investigations (name redacted) to Assistant U.S. Attorney James Candelmo, Eastern District of North Carolina, dated November 4, 2004. The letter is a response to AUSA Candelmo's request for documents and reports related to the prosecution of David Anthony Passaro, a former CIA contractor/medic who was charged with assault in connection with the June 21, 2003 death of an Afghani detainee, Abdul Wali. The CIA/IG's requests that their office be consulted prior to prosecutions resulting from the material provided to ensure that the "General Counsel may have the opportunity to protect Agency interests". Finally, the reports, dated September 26, 2003 and May 6, 2004, are requests that the reports be kept secure; stress' that the reports are not for release; hat the reports are for AUISA Candelomo's use only; and if possible, that the reports "be returned when they are no longer required for evidential or record purposes".
