CIA copy of an article from the London Independent on Sunday reporting on the death of a son of an Iraqi policeman and the "brutal" treatment of some Iraqi prisoners while in British custody. The article describes physical beatings and violent assaults of detainees.

- British soldiers raided Haitham Hotel in Basra, Iraq on September 14, 2003, and detained eight men. One of the detainees, Baha Mousa, was the son of an Iraqi police officer. His deceased body was returned to his father after three days in detention, with a broken nose, a bloody mouth, and bruised ribs and thighs. Another detainee picked up at the hotel, Kifah Taha, suffered acute renal failure after being kicked in the kidneys. A "wound assessment" by Frimley Park Hospital in Britain stated that he suffered "generalised bruising following repeated incidents of assault." The eight men were held in a British interrogation center in Basra, which coincidentally was in the same building that served as headquarters for Ali Majid (AKA "Chemical Ali"), Saddam's brutal cousin who gassed the Kurds of Halabja.
